New York Arts of Pacific Asia
Anchors Asia Week in its New Venue
March 14 to 18 with Preview on March 13
For Immediate Release New York’s 2009 Spring Asia Week will be anchored this year by the presentation of the Arts of Pacific Asia Show with 68 exhibitors at its new venue, 7W at 7 West 34th St. Despite the cancellation of the 2009 International Asian Art Fair (announced late last year) New York’s spring Asia Week promises robust activity including major auctions of Asian material at Sotheby’s, Christies and Doyle’s; Gallery Shows at the Fuller Building on East 57th Street; and private gallery shows around the City in addition to the Arts of Pacific Asia Show.
New York Arts of Pacific Asia will open on Friday, March 13th and run through Wednesday, March 18th at 7W New York, the Merchandise Mart’s 29,000 square foot exhibition hall at 7 West 34th St between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. The new venue (selected after the military schedule at the 69th Regiment Armory made it unavailable) is an exceptionally well equipped and comfortable, purpose built exhibition space located on the 11th floor of a building just across the street from the Empire State Building. 7W recently hosted its first major New York fine arts event, The Outsider Arts Fair, which was well received by exhibitors and visitors alike.
Arts of Pacific Asia 2009 will present 68 exhibitors, four fewer than in 2008, but in the new venue, the larger booths required by the four galleries joining the fair from the International results in a slightly smaller number of exhibitors appearing in roughly the same event space. The exhibitors from the International joining Arts of Pacific Asia this year are Douglas Dawson Gallery, Chicago; Flying Cranes Antiques, New York City; Kang Collection, New York City and Koo New York, New York City. In 2008, four other galleries, all from London, shifted to Arts of Pacific Asia, Nicholas Grindley, Knapton & Rasti Asian Art; S. Marchant and Son, and Jan Van Beers Oriental Art.
About half the exhibitors appearing at the 18th presentation are from the top tier of US specialists in Asian antiques and fine art, with the other half traveling from the Europe and the Far East to participate.
